How do I keep a moment from the screen?
Goal
Save a window, a region, or the whole screen as an image and find it again later.
Before you start
- Nova may record the screen. See Which macOS permissions does Nova need?
- The menu bar icon is on if you want to use the menu.
Steps
- In the menu at the Nova icon: Moments, Keep moment. Nova takes the frontmost window. Keep selection lets you drag a region.
- Or say at the avatar: “Save this screenshot” or “Remember this region”. Nova hides itself for the shot.
- Nova replies “Saved to Moments” with the moment’s name.
- To look: Moments, Open board. The moments sit there as cards. Top right are Keep moment and Crop.
- To search: Moments, Search. Nova searches title, caption, note, app, and window title, not the image itself.
- Right-click a card: Note, Maximize, Delete. Delete asks “Move this moment to the trash?”. Only in the trash does Delete permanently remove it.
- Settings, Moments, card Keep. The page is in Simple and Expert. It has Moments on, Default capture with Frontmost window, Drag a region, or Full screen, and Short caption after saving.
- A key of your own for Keep moment goes under Keyboard shortcuts, group Moments.
Example
“Save this screenshot.” Then Moments, Open board. The new moment is a card on the board.
Common problems
- Nova says “Moments are off.” The box Moments on is not checked.
- Without Screen Recording permission there is no image. Privacy Lock blocks keeping as well.
- Short caption after saving sends the image to your model for images, for one sentence about it. If no image should leave the Mac, uncheck it.
- At most 500 moments. Moments in the trash count too. After that Nova takes no new one until you delete older ones permanently.
