How do I connect a service to Nova?
Goal
Add a service such as Todoist, Slack, or Notion so Nova can read from it.
Before you start
- Expert view. In Simple, Apps & services lists only the AI providers and ElevenLabs. The switch is in How do I switch between Simple and Expert?
- Access to the service, usually an API token from its settings.
Steps
- Settings, Apps & services. Under Connected apps each service has a line on what Nova does with it.
- Type the name in Search for a service…. Connected on the right means the access is already there, otherwise it says Connect.
- Tap the row. The service’s card opens. Enter the token in the field. Nova stores it encrypted.
- Many cards have a box such as Do not send Todoist content to cloud AI. Then content from that service does not go to a cloud provider.
- Back to list returns to the overview. The row now shows Connected.
- Reading works right away. Where Nova creates or changes something, such as a task in Todoist, a card comes first. Without a yes Nova writes nothing. Slack and Dropbox are read only.
- AI providers such as OpenAI or Ollama are on the same page. For those, see How do I set up AI access?
Example
Connect Todoist, then ask the avatar: “What’s due in Todoist today?”
Common problems
- Simple hides every service except the AI providers and ElevenLabs. Settings search lists them under In Expert view.
- Connected only means access has been entered. Whether it works shows with a question or a check button, such as Check connection for Notion.
- Credentials do not travel to a second Mac with iCloud sync. See How do I use Nova on two Macs?
- Which servers Nova calls for a service is shown in How do I see which servers Nova talks to?
