How do I activate my license or change plans?

Goal

Enter a registration key, change the plan, or free up a Mac.

Before you start

• An internet connection for the check.
• A registration key from your purchase on Polar, or the trial.

Steps

1. Settings, License. The page is there in Simple and in Expert. During the trial, the top shows how many days are left and until when.
2. Paste the key into the Registration key field and press Check / save. Nova has the key checked with Polar through the license server of nova-assistant.io.
3. The status shows below, for example Valid, with the plan and the packs. If it says Nova needs a restart, press Restart Nova now. Otherwise the old services stay.
4. No plan yet: the boxes Month, Year, and Lifetime open the purchase on Polar in the browser. Then enter the key here.
5. With a running subscription, your plan carries Active. Switch to yearly or Switch to monthly opens the Polar customer portal. You change the plan there.
6. Switch to Lifetime shows Lifetime price, Prorated credit, and Estimated price. Continue to Lifetime purchase opens the purchase in the browser. Only the payment there completes the switch. The old subscription then ends on its own.
7. Manage subscription opens the customer portal. Cancelling happens there, not in Nova.
8. Changing Macs: Deactivate license on this Mac frees the activation slot. Nova asks first. The subscription keeps running, and the key is gone from this Mac afterwards.

Example

Paste the key, press Check / save, and wait until it says Valid.

Common problems

• No network. The last state stays. Nova keeps the previous state until the check goes through.
• A wrong key overwrites nothing: This key is invalid. The previous state stays. This key does not apply here. means it does not belong to this app.
• Without a valid license after the trial, Nova closes the windows of the locked areas. Settings stay open so you can enter a key.
• You switch to Lifetime from a running monthly or yearly subscription. If the license server cannot be reached, the switch stops and your subscription stays as it is.
• Polar sets tax and billing currency by your location, not the currency switch on the page.
