When does Nova speak up on her own, and how do I set it?

Goal

Decide whether and how Nova gives hints on her own, for example before an event or for a break.

Before you start

• Hint mode is in Simple. The other tabs are in Expert. The switch is in How do I switch between Simple and Expert?

Steps

1. Settings, Alerts & reminders, the Look tab, card Minimize & hints.
2. Menu Hint mode. Quiet (no hints): no voice, no banner, no text on the avatar. Normal (short caption): Nova speaks the hint and shows it briefly on the avatar. Active (panel / stays longer): like Normal, the text stays longer. Normal is the default.
3. In Expert, the Reminders tab, card Break reminders. The checkbox Break reminders (move / coffee) is on by default, every 50 minutes, only between 8 and 19.
4. Below it, the card Calendar reminders, checkbox Reminder before calendar events, with the warning in minutes. It is off by default. Remind me of a break now and Announce next event try it right away.
5. Mail & channels tab, card Further offers. It lists offers such as Meeting wrap-up after an event ends or Ask on unlock after being away. Nova asks once and acts only after your yes.
6. The checkbox After three declines, ask whether to turn the offer off is on by default. After the third no, Nova asks whether to turn that offer off.
7. On these days tab: on which weekdays Nova asks on her own about the briefing and day mode. The briefing itself is in How do I set up the morning briefing?
8. Nova stays silent while she is busy, during a meeting recording, in a Teams call, and during an event in your calendar. Some offers then come shortly after the event.

Example

Leave Hint mode on Normal. In Expert, press Remind me of a break now under Break reminders.

Common problems

• Quiet means nothing at all, not even a spoken calendar reminder.
• During night quiet and with a dark screen, Nova does not speak on her own. The hint then arrives silently. See How do I keep Nova quiet at night?
• The time on the hour is a separate signal. See How do I hear the time on the hour?
• Simple lacks the tabs Quiet, On these days, Reminders, and Mail & channels.
• If Conversation is chosen under How does Nova speak?, a conversation circle stays open briefly after an announcement, 8 seconds by default. You can answer right away.
