How do I give a calendar a short name?
Goal
Give a calendar a word you say, so Nova reads the right calendar and calls it by that name.
Before you start
- Nova may access Calendars. See Which macOS permissions does Nova need?
- Expert view. The switch is in How do I switch between Simple and Expert?
Steps
- Settings, Calendar & briefing, the Aliases tab. The card is Calendar aliases.
- One line per link: Alias = calendar name. On the left is the word you say. On the right is the calendar’s name as it appears in the Calendar app.
- One alias may point to several calendars: Alias = Calendar A, Calendar B. Several aliases may point to the same calendar.
- Ask at the avatar with the short name. Nova then reads the calendars behind the alias.
- In the answer Nova calls the calendar by its alias. A calendar named just Calendar is called Work calendar without an alias.
- Nothing is written here. A new event still comes as a card, see How do I add or move an event?
Example
Enter the line Family = Family-Cal, birthdays. Then: “What’s on for Family this weekend?”
Common problems
- Simple does not show the Aliases tab.
- If one line has no =, Nova does not take the list and keeps the old one.
- Nova reads at most 10 calendars at once.
- Calendars from Morgen have their own list, Morgen calendar aliases (colleague names), in the Advanced tab.
