How do I see which files Nova wrote?

Goal

See in the File log which files Nova saved, changed, moved or put in the Trash after you confirmed.

Before you start

• The Nova Chat add-on. Whether it is on shows in Settings under License, Packs.
• Expert view. The switch is in How do I switch between Simple and Expert?

Steps

1. Settings, Chat & tools, the File log tab.
2. The card Recent actions opens and closes and shows the number of entries. Each row has date and time, source, action and status. Below them are the folder and the file name.
3. The source is Overlay for requests at the avatar and Nova Chat for the chat window, there with Private or Work.
4. The log holds what Nova wrote after a card, for example after Save on the card Save file. See How do I save an answer as a file?
5. Show in Finder opens the folder with the log files. Export as Markdown saves the log as an .md file. The Desktop is suggested.
6. Show all actions opens the Actions window. It also lists other writing actions, for 7 days, 30 days or 90 days, with Search.

Example

“Save this as a file called Test.” Press Save on the card, then Settings, Chat & tools, the File log tab. The new file is on top with the status ok.

Common problems

• The log holds only path and time, no file contents. It stays even if a chat is deleted.
• The card shows the last 30 entries. Nova keeps the log files for 90 days.
• Without Nova Chat the page Chat & tools is missing. Nova still keeps the log, but you do not see it in Settings.
